Homeowner Installs EcoSmart Picture Window Unit with Tempered Safety Glass as per city code.
EcoSmart Windows are truly custom built to fit into the existing openings.
Midwest Construction has been in the replacement window business since 1983. That’s when Alex P. Despenas and his oldest son Anthony made the trip to Ohio and made his final decision to exclusively sell and install Great Lakes windows.
As we started to market windows through home shows, fairs and TV, we noticed the huge demand for custom built windows. The homes we noticed that needed attention were the home built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. These homes were built with real craftsmanship, the best local milled lumber and old world styles like colonial, Victorian and even the 1 ½ stories and bungalow homes.
Another beautiful feature of these homes was the intricate wood work throughout the house including the interior window casings, stairways and bannisters, including built in cabinets.
The windows in these homes had single pane interior glass and an additional wood storm window with glass for the winter time. In the spring, the storm window was switch out for screens. There was also painting and having to maintain/scrap/putty and paint 2 sets of storm windows and the window unit itself!
After:
All other window manufacturers at the time built standard size windows for standard size openings. The homeowner’s choice was to find a window to fit close and fill in around it. Well in most cases it meant to make the window smaller. You had to remove the original window to the Rough Opening, re frame the opening to fit the new window and install the new window! Great were done! No not even close: next step fill in the exterior sheeting around the new window, try to find matching siding, paint matching siding then onto the interior. Fill in the interior with plaster/Sheetrock, let dry, sand another coat, let dry, sand and hope for the perfect finish. Re-trim the interior of the opening, paint or stain new trim, paint around new opening on the interior and exterior. I may have forgotten a few things but you get the picture, lots of work and extra expense to put in a window. Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As time has passed we found our company installing windows in homes built of all ages as wood window manufacturers have ran out of old growth lumber and used whatever the market had to offer.
With a custom built vinyl window manufactured by Great Lakes it gave Midwest Construction the opportunity to provide a custom built window. Measured, manufactured and installed into the existing jambs, headers and interior casings and exterior sills and casings. No matter what year the home was built, we can build a window to fit into the existing opening.
