This is the time of year you notice your windows are under performing. The room has a draft, the curtains are moving and the furnace won’t stop running. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to upgrade your windows.
If your home was built between the late 1800's and up into the early 1970’s chances are your windows are single pane glass with a storm window system. This system offer very little if any R-Value and basically keeps the elements out and offers no thermal protection.
From the 1970’s window manufacturers started to concentrate on building energy efficient windows to protect from the cold. Double glaze welded glass and double glazed glass with spacers, this technology was incorporated into windows to provide some energy efficiency. In the 1980’s, window manufacturers really stepped up the glass technology adding in new technology to the glass packs to provide insulation value at the windows weakest point for thermal performance in the glass!
Fast forward to 2017, our window manufacturer, Great Lakes windows of Toledo, Ohio, has the ability to provide glass packs with R-Values from R- 4.2 - R-5 in double glaze options and R-7.6 and R-10 in Triple Glaze options. With insulated master and sash frames, this gives homeowners a window that performs equally in all 4-seaons of our Iowa weather.
Since Midwest Construction made the decision to get into the replacement window business in 1983 we have been affiliated with Great Lakes windows as our EXCLUSIVE WINDOW TO SELL AND INSTALL IN OUR CUSTOMERS HOME! Paul Despenas, V.P. Marketing at Midwest Construction, explains “My Father and older brother made the journey to the Great Lakes window factory among other window manufacturers in the early 1980’s. It took my Father almost 2 years to make a decision on a window manufacturer. When he finally did, I asked him why Great Lakes. He said, out of all of the window factories I have toured, Great Lakes has the best research and development team and is looking well into the future of the window industry. All of the others have built their window and it’s good enough with no plans for future development.”
Since 1984 Midwest Construction has been able to grow our company because of the quality products delivered to our warehouses from Great lakes Windows.
