Urbandale, Iowa Homeowners refresh their existing deck with Timber Teck Composite Decking and Westbury Metal Railings.

The home was built in 2005 and the homeowners were diligent when it came time to maintain the wooden deck and railings.

Every 2-3 years a deck needs to be cleaned. All wood deck boards, railings, and steps should be covered with a weather/water proof stain to preserve the wood and get the most out of the material. It is just the nature of wood, when exposed to the four seasons Mother Nature delivers, it won’t last forever.

Troy Deaton Senior Design Consultant and 24 year veteran with Midwest Construction’s Grimes, Iowa Branch, talked with these homeowners when they stopped by our Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines 2018 display. They noticed our Oasis All Season Sunroom Display and stopped in to inquire about deck alternative options.

Troy spent some time listening to their problems and had some options. Both agreed it would be best to schedule an appointment and actually stop out to the property for a proper inspection and exact, cost not just an estimate.  Troy met with the homeowners and inspected the deck and all parties agreed the deck could use more support.

Midwest Construction removed the existing wood post, railings, and deck boards and hauled them away. A cedar joist was replaced as well as added cross supports. The new 6 x 6 treated posts were installed into pier frost footings to give the deck the additional support it needed.

Timber Tech Composite Decking and Westbury Aluminum Railing were installed on the existing deck framing giving these homeowners a maintenance free deck.
