Midwest Construction (Grimes, Iowa) removes fiber cement siding and installs Everlast Advanced Composite Siding for West Des Moines, Iowa homeowner.
The home was built in 2005, the exterior cladding, fiber cement siding. Fiber cement siding has some good benefits; however the disadvantages may cause some issues down the road. The fiber cement siding needed painting again, the trim boards have been rotting for a while, the siding was letting loose, waving on the walls and it was time for an update!
Fiber cement siding can absorb water in the cut ends into the corners and trim boards if not properly sealed. The joints do expand and contract leaving gaps for air, water, ice and snow to filter in and cause damage. The product does absorb water and will delaminate in time.
While our crew was on the job, the neighbor stopped by to ask the crew why they are removing the 16 year old siding? Our installer said walk around the house and see the water damage on the sheeting where the joints let water in and around the trim boards where the siding came away and water infiltrated. The crew had some areas they needed to replace sheeting because of the damage cause.
Midwest Construction’s siding applicators removed the fiber cement siding and it was hauled away.
All of the exterior walls of the home were wrapped with Tyvek House wrap. The house wrap provides and water/wind proof barrier to protect the homes exterior sheeting.
After all of the door openings were trimmed out with custom bent PVC aluminum coil stock, they were taped off with Green Guard Flashing tape, this prevents and water and or air infiltration.
Storm Gray 6 7/8 inch, Everlast Advanced Composite Siding was installed on 3 sides of the home and the front was trimmed out with Everlast Vertical Siding.
