Why does it take so long to get my Home Improvement Project Done?
This is an article I read in the April 16th edition of the Kiplinger Report.
Our family has been in the Home Improvement Industry since 1958.In my 43 years in this industry, we have never faced these challenges listed below.
The Covid-19 pandemic caught everyone off guard. Our manufacturers normally have enough inventories to deliver siding, windows or sunrooms within 4 weeks of order date and delivered to our warehouses. Not anymore!! Materials can take as long as 12 weeks to be manufactured and delivered.
When the Covid hit the factories it forced shut downs, if one person on that line called in sick the next day the whole line was quarantined for 2 weeks. It forced the factories to run only one line instead of four. Still today the factories have to shut down because someone came up not feeling well.
Here is a take of all industry problems from the Kiplinger Report:
The economy is poised for rapid growth this year as it rebounds from the hit it took in 2020.
Yet many small businesses are struggling to keep up with sudden increases in demand.
Of the many challenges smalls face now…Labor shortages are by far the toughest. After so many workers lost their jobs last year, and with the unemployment rate still fairly high, it seems like there should be plenty of people to hire as employers see business improve. But it turns out
that workers aren’t nearly as abundant as expected.
Workers are especially scarce. Millions of people dropped out of the labor force last year, either to care for children home from school or because they simply gave up looking for work.
Many employers are competing for staff as they rush to ramp up production or reopen.
And many folks prefer government aid to a regular paycheck right now. We have heard from multiple industry sources that some workers are turning down occupations because their stimulus checks and jobless benefits pay the bills. “Try calling me back in six weeks” when that money runs out, they say.
All sorts of logistical bottlenecks, especially shortages of critical parts for various products, and shipping delays. While scrambling for enough workers, small manufacturers in particular are grappling with major supply chain kinks.
The supply chain and trucking challenges should smooth out by August as the US population receives the Covid Vaccinations.
We are working with our manufacturers every day to make sure we have the products to finish your project.
